Welcome to the St. John Paul II Cluster Catholic family. We have two parish sites: St. John the Evangelist in Independence, Iowa and St. Patrick’s in Winthrop, Iowa. We cordially invite you to celebrate your Catholic faith with us and share in our spiritual journey. On behalf of the St. John Paul II Cluster Catholic Community and Parish Staff, I would like to personally welcome you to our parish website. I hope that your “visit” will give you a sense of the opportunities for worship and prayer that are offered in our cluster, as well as the various programs for growth in our Catholic faith and the many opportunities for “hands on” ministry.
We believe that our parishes are much more than simply a place to worship once a week. It is also a center for learning, teaching, sharing faith experiences, and for giving and receiving the strength that we all need for our life-long journey with God. We are those servants mentioned by Jesus (Matthew 25:14-30). Each of us have been richly gifted, but these gifts must be invested wisely and generously to help others, according to the principles of good Christian discipleship.

New to the Area? Welcome to the St. John paul II Cluster!As a church community, St. John’s and St. Patrick’s offer many services to our members in addition to weekly worship. If you are new to the area or are now an adult with your own household, we warmly invite you to become a member. Women's Lent GroupWe will be finishing the last 4 chapters of the book, The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic by Matthew Kelly. Even if you did not start during Advent, you can easily catch up. We will meet at 6:30 on the following Mondays: Feb 23rd, March 2nd, March 9th and March 23rd (skipping week of Spring Break). We will meet at the home of Kathy Post, 2132 Horseshoe Drive. Call Kathy at 563-608-3151 to sign up or sign up through the Cluster Office. If anyone needs assistance ordering a book, let Kathy know.

Lenten Luncheons
The Buchanan County Ministerial Association is sponsoring a series of Lenten Luncheons. The Lunch/Worship will start at noon and the cost for the meal is $10.00 per person. Each host church will provide a speaker, music, and a fellowship meal.

St. Patrick's Fridays During LentWe will be offering Eucharistic Adoration throughout the day on the Fridays of Lent. Please stop by the church for an hour of prayer, or even 10 minutes if that’s all you have to spare.

St. John's Stations of the CrossA time-honored practice in the season of Lent is to gather and retrace the steps of Jesus on his way to Calvary. We will continue this tradition beginning on Wednesday, February 25th at 6:00 pm in St. John’s Church. Come Join us as we reflect on how much Jesus loves us.

Men's MinistryOnce again Deacon Tim will be leading a men's study group during Lent. Our meetings will be on Wednesday's at 7pm beginning on February 25 in the church choir room. We will be using the book, "No Greater Love", by Dr. Edward Sri. Dr Sri is a theologian, international speaker, and author. No Greater Love, is a Biblical Walk through Jesus's passion and death. Through this journey we hope to gain insight that helps us to understand Jesus's passion by connecting it to the Old Testament which reveals God's profound love for us. We will walk the path with Jesus through Gethsemane, his trials and the crucifixion. We hope you can join us as we journey through the Lenten season.
